'I do get the impression' - Ian Wright on whether Mohamed Salah will sign a new Liverpool contract

Ian Wright believes Mohamed Salah is likely to stay at Liverpool beyond his current contract after tipping the Egyptian to go on and break more records at Anfield. Salah's deal expires next summer but with the forward showing no signs of slowing down, the pressure is growing on the Reds to agree new terms.

Salah signed a contract in 2022 to make him essentially the highest paid player in Liverpool's history and he's since moved into the top six of Liverpool's all-time top goalscorers with 214 strikes so far, with Billy Liddell and Gordon Hodgson both within his sights.

The 32-year-old remains in incredible condition and has started the season in fine form, scoring and assisting three times in Liverpool's opening three games under Arne Slot.

And speaking to the Premier League, Wright believes that desire to creep closer to Liverpool's all-time leading goalscorer Ian Rush, who sits on 346 goals during his time with the club, could be what keeps Salah at Anfield.

He said: "I do get the impression that he will probably like to stay at Liverpool and break records. He has got that legacy to play for.

“Let’s say he stays for three years. Even if he dropped off in the last year, that’s 10 years of unbelievable Liverpool service. I believe that he will probably stay if Liverpool go about it.”

Indeed, should Salah stay at Liverpool, Rush, who enjoys a good relationship with the Egyptian, might start getting nervous about his goalscoring record. Salah might be 132 goals behind the Welshman, but with his record and attitude, plus current levels of fitness, it might not be a stretch to see him become the Reds' all-time leading scorer should he stay at Anfield for the rest of his career.
