James Buckley will return to TV in a drama about buried treasure.

The 35-year-old actor is best known for playing sex-obsessed sixth former Jay Cartwright in classic E4 comedy 'The Inbetweeners' and has appeared in sitcoms like 'Zipped' and 'White Gold' since it ended in 2010 but is now "so excited" to be returning to screens as wheeler-dealer Ashley in upcoming Channel 5 drama 'The Hoard'.

He told The Daily Star's HotTV column: "I'm so excited to start filming 'The Hoard'. Ashley is a guy who is confident in his convictions, despite some questionable morals, but I have a feeling he might have bitten off more than he can chew with this one!"

James will star alongside the likes of 'Line of Duty' actor Neil Morrissey as well as 'Cold Feet' star Fay Ripley and filming on the four-hour drama is reportedly set to commence within the coming weeks, with a broadcast set to follow later this year.

James - who has been married to Clair Meek since 2012 and has Harrison, 11, as well as nine-year-old Jude with her - last appeared on TV in an episode of 'Doctor Who' but outside of telly has carved out a career selling personalised video messages to fans on celebrity greetings website Cameo, and is said to have netted almost £1 million from the venture.

James - who has also acted on the West End stage and appears in a YouTube series with his family - is said to have become the first British star on the website to have achieved such a feat.

Towards the end of last year, platform founder Martin Blencowe said: "James was incredibly popular from the start, but he’s stayed committed to his fans, always keeping an accessible price (even during his busiest periods) and giving his all to make each Cameo special.

“In return, he’s gained the financial freedom and overwhelming fan support to pursue the projects he’s most passionate about like '2:22 - A Ghost Story', the West End play I was fortunate enough to see him and Tom [Felton] star in, and his family’s YouTube channel, 'At Home With The Buckleys'."
