Anyone still holding out for an Inbetweeners reunion... don't.

James Buckley, who played Jay in the E4 sitcom, has a pretty good reason for why it may not happen – though it doesn't make it any less heartbreaking.

"Obviously what I get from everyone, every day is, 'Can you do some more Inbetweeners?'," he told RadioTimes.com.

"And unfortunately it's just like physically impossible. Because we're old! I can't believe that's even still a discussion. Because people go, 'You could do some more, can't you?'

"No, we can't. Because – well, look at us. We can't play teenagers!"

Fair point.

Buckley is not the only cast member crushing our dreams of late, with Greg Davies ruling out any sort of reunion too.

"I loved being in The Inbetweeners but it's reached a natural conclusion," he said. "I've never contemplated [a return] because I know it's not an option. I don't think it's going to happen."

Simon Bird, who plays Will, confirmed earlier this year that the show was "over", though Joe Thomas – Simon the character – was more optimistic and even suggested his own idea for a story.

"We could do the originals 10 years down the line, married with kids," he said. "I mean, we can do that now. I would jump at any chance to work with those guys again – in any context, really."

At least one thing most of them can agree on is slamming the idea of a reboot with a new cast and writing team.
