This incredible new hotel is a game changer for the Lake District

It’s been a good year for the Lake District. In July, the area was awarded World Heritage Status by UNESCO, becoming the 31st UK site to be named one.

And now, in August, a game-changing hotel has opened in Ullswater: Another Place, The Lake. From the team behind Cornwall’s much loved Watergate Bay hotel, this new project is set within 18 acres of lush Lake District national park, with land running right up to the shore and views that do all the talking.

A grand Georgian building on the lakeshore has been transformed into a stylish 40-bedroom hotel that expertly blends the old and the new: an original four poster bed here, a floor to ceiling glass window there. But the star of the show is the lake itself – with every element of the hotel leads naturally back to the landscape and the view.

But it’s much more than just a seriously stylish stay – and one that’s dog-friendly too – The Lake is all about getting into the great outdoors and drinking lungfuls of that great Cumbrian air. You can go wild swimming, sailing, paddle boarding, cycling, walking – and even skiing while you stay.

Back at the hotel – you'll want to make the most of this gorgeous new space - there's plenty of relaxation and eating to be done. The Library Room is a cosy space for reading and playing board games by the fire – as well as staring out of the floor-to-ceiling windows. At the Swim Club, there’s a 20 metre swimming pool with uninterrupted views of the lake and a mini spa where you can hit the sauna, bust out your cardio or just soak in the outdoor hot tub.

Foodies will be kept busy too. The Lake has two restaurants – both with a view to Instagram, naturally. The Living Space is the more casual of the two and has a large terrace where you can sip sundowners or have your morning coffee. Rampsbeck, with champions local Cumbrian produce, is the place to book in for dinner.

This is just the break for urbanites looking to get that injection of fresh country air, without compromising on style - or dinner.
