"The Wells Carnival is part of the famed Somerset Carnivals, which are rooted in centuries-old traditions dating back to the 1600s. The carnival is thought to have its origins in the celebration of Guy Fawkes Night, but it has evolved over time into an illuminated procession of themed floats, walking performances, and marching bands.

"The event is a highlight of the Somerset carnival season, with Wells Carnival forming part of the Guy Fawkes Carnival Circuit, which includes other notable carnivals like Bridgwater and Glastonbury. These carnivals attract tens of thousands of visitors and participants each year, making them some of the largest illuminated processions in the world."
