As the warmer months draw near, families often flock to the coast for a day in the sun. However, should the capricious British weather thwart your seaside plans, there's no need to shelve those swim shorts just yet.

A mere stone's throw from Surrey, located in Bracknell, Berkshire, is Coral Reef Waterworld (only 30 minutes drive from Bagshot) an impressive indoor water park perfect for families. Following a £13 million makeover in 2017, this aquatic paradise serves as an ideal alternative when the British climate proves unreliable.

Boasting five exhilarating slides, a relaxing lazy river, and a pirate ship, the park caters to all tastes. Daredevils can take on The Canon, a "high-speed thrill ride" complete with sensors timing your descent.

Compete for the fastest time of the day, which is proudly displayed after you zoom down the 67-metre slide. For a more laid-back adventure, try Aqua Splash, a flume featuring 15 interactive touch pads that light up as you swoosh by, hitting as many as you can to rack up points.

Then there's Storm Chaser, offering a wilder experience where you can go solo or team up with a family member. What sets Storm Chaser apart is its customisable options, allowing riders to choose their own soundtrack and lighting effects for their journey down the slide.

Then there's Poseidon's Peril, where you can ride with a friend in a two-person raft. As you descend, you'll pass 20 individual light rings that change colour and rotate, creating the illusion of sinking to the ocean floor.

Last but not least is Maelstrom, a ride that might seem calm with its tranquil water, soft lights and music. But don't be fooled - you'll soon be thrown into a wild cone where the water churns and tosses you around before you reach the end.

If slides aren't your thing, Coral Reef Waterworld has plenty more to offer. For the little ones, there are toddler pools complete with mini slides, drench buckets, water troughs and a yellow diving bell.

The lazy river is a great option for those who want to relax, but if you're after something a bit more thrilling, try the fast-flowing water of the Disco Island Rapid Channel. Finally, the Coralina Pirate Ship, complete with water cannons and slides, is a highlight of the park - it even has an erupting volcano.

Remember, it's essential to book your session online before you attend, and make sure to arrive 15 minutes before your session starts. The park is open from 9am to 8.45pm Monday through Friday, and from 9am to 8pm on weekends. Bank holidays have the last finish time at 9pm.

An adult ticket that includes the slides and pool costs £18.60, while children aged 5 and up can enter for £13.20. Under fives can enter for just £1.20. You can secure your booking at the water park here. The address is Nine Mile Ride, Bracknell RG12 7JQ
