Yahoo News Indonesian woman charged with abandoning her son in rubbish bin
SINGAPORE — A 29-year-old Indonesian woman was charged on Thursday (30 July) with abandoning her baby son inside a rubbish bin.
The woman, being the mother of a boy under the age of 12, faces one count of leaving the child in a blue rubbish bin in front of 7 Tai Keng Gardens at about 5pm on Monday, with the intention of abandoning the child.
A gag order has been issued on her identity as well as that of her child’s. The child’s age was not mentioned in court documents.
She will return to court on 13 August, pending investigations.
Baby stable with no visible injuries
In a statement on Wednesday, the police said the baby was found abandoned inside a bin at Tai Keng Gardens.
Through investigations, the police arrested the the woman, who was believed to have abandoned the baby. The police are looking into the identity of the child’s father.
The baby had no visible injuries and his condition was stable.
If convicted on exposure and abandonment of a child under 12 years old, the woman faces a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both.
