Infrared Satellite Shows Hurricane Ian Churning Off Florida

Hurricane Ian was upgraded to a Category 4 storm on Wednesday, September 28, packing maximum sustained winds of 155 mph as it neared Florida’s west coast.

Early on Wednesday, the National Hurricane Center warned “time is quickly running out” for residents in southwest Florida to prepare ahead of landfall.

Infrared satellite imagery from NOAA Satellites showed Hurricane Ian churning off the coast of west Florida early on Wednesday morning.
