Injured Eastern Brown Snake Removed From Sunshine Coast Beach

Queensland snake catcher Stuart McKenzie was called to a beach on the Sunshine Coast to rescue a lethargic eastern brown snake.

Video from November 7 shows McKenzie approaching the 2.5-foot eastern brown, which was found on the sand on Maroochydore Beach. Locals had seen the snake coming out of the water and up onto the sand, McKenzie said.

Eastern brown snakes are “highly venomous,” McKenzie said in a Facebook post, but this snake appeared “very lethargic and exhausted”. It had an injury too, he said, and was taken to the Australia Zoo Wildlife hospital to receive care.

McKenzie said, “I am so glad we got the call as a beach walker may have accidentally stepped on him.” Credit: Stuart McKenzie via Storyful
