Injured Hiker Rescued After Spending Seven Nights in Italian Alps

A man was rescued after he spent seven nights in the Italian Alps following a fall that left him with multiple injuries including a broken ankle, the Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico (CNSAS) said.

Rescuers said their helicopter spotted the man’s foil blanket from the air and later found the man lying on the ground near a forest track in the north-eastern Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

The 32-year-old told the crew he had slipped several meters down a canal and dragged himself as close as possible to a nearby stream.

The man was hungry and thirsty but told rescuers his dog helped him survive.

He was stabilized, put in a vacuum bag, and then airlifted aboard the helicopter along with his dog, rescuers said. Credit: CNSAS via Storyful
