Injuries in Norrkoping After Police Open Fire on Group Protesting Quran Burnings

Three people protesting Quran burnings were injured in Norrkoping, Sweden, when police opened fire during a rally on Sunday, April 17, according to local news reports.

Politician Rasmus Paludan, who frequently burns the Quran, had planned demonstrations in both Linkoping and Norrkoping that day, leading to counter-protests in both cities.

Expressen said stones were thrown at police officers, and the three injured protesters in Norrkoping were arrested and hospitalized. A total of 26 people were arrested, according to Aftonbladet.

Paludan posted on Facebook that he had decided to cancel the demonstrations, and said that it was “good that the police shoot thugs when necessary.”
