The team at a Norfolk-based bacon business is celebrating after it won a trio of accolades at a major awards ceremony.

Starting as a backyard lockdown project, chef Elliott Bloomfield launched Ambry turkey bacon in late 2022 and production is based at a free-range poultry farm in Skeyton, near Aylsham.

Its free-range turkey bacon is naturally low in fat and high in protein and it is cured with sea salt and dark muscovado sugar and gently smoked with beech chips.

At the recent Quality Food Awards 2023, which celebrates the best of the UK food and drink industry, Ambry won three accolades.

The first was a Gold Award in the bacon category, where it had been shortlisted alongside pork bacon from Aldi.

The judges said: "This turkey bacon had a lovely aroma with a superb balance of sweet and salty flavours that matched pork bacon.

"The product tasted natural and clean as a result of the short ingredient list, giving it a premium feel.

"Well done Ambry, this is a great tasting and innovative product."

It was then judged against 50 other category winners and named the overall product of the year.

Ambry's third award was for small producer of the year, which is for businesses with less than 10 staff members and annual sales of under £2million.

Mr Bloomfield said: "We’re humbled to receive these awards - even to be compared such quality products and outstanding producers is a massive honour."

Ambry's turkey bacon was also given a coveted Gold Badge at the Great British Food Awards 2023 earlier this year.

The judges gave the product a perfect 15/15 score, describing it as "an exquisite guilt-free indulgence" and "a game-changer, offering a healthier alternative without compromising on taste".

It is stocked in various Norfolk retailers and distributed locally by Roger Holme Foods.
