An inquest has been opened into the tragic death of a much-loved dad-of-two who died after a road traffic collision.
Craig Dixon, along with his dog Duchess, died after being struck by a Citroen C3 on Westgate in Guisborough . During the inquest held at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Tuesday, further details of the 39-year-old truck driver’s tragic death were revealed.
A post mortem report conducted by Dr Louise Mulcahy ruled Mr Dixon’s cause of death as “head injuries”. Gurchan Singh has been charged with causing death by careless/ inconsiderate driving and appeared at Teesside Crown Court in July.
The 40-year-old, of Skiddaw Court, Nunthorpe, pleaded not guilty and is listed to stand trial on January 13. Coroner Karin Welsh told the inquest of the circumstances leading to Mr Dixon’s death and that he “died as a result of a road traffic collision on Westgate in Guisborough” on December 2, 2022.
The assistant coroner for Teesside and Hartlepool added that Mr Dixon, who lived on Allison Street, Guisborough, but was born in Middlesbrough, was a pedestrian and was “hit by a vehicle”. At the time of the crash, Teesside Live reported that Mr Dixon was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time after the incident.
The incident saw Westgate closed by police for a number of hours on each side of Allison Street with a cordon erected.
Coroner Welsh added: “I understand the driver has been charged with an offence and is currently before another court”. The inquest was adjourned due to “alternate proceedings”.
Tributes have been paid to the 'kind, funny, and supportive' dad. As previously reported, Mr Dixon had promised his two daughters that he would take them to The Riverside Stadium for Boro's Boxing Day match against Wigan Athletic.
Fans then rallied to support the family and decided to pay tribute to the fellow supporter during the match at the Riverside Stadium. In the 39th minute of the match on December 26, 2022, signifying the age he was when he passed, fans stood up and begin to applaud while the game was under way.
Some fans used their phone torches to light up the stands during the applause. Chants of 'T-T-Teessider' rang around the ground as thousands of fans joined in the tribute avid Boro fan.
