All Creatures Great and Small returned to Channel 5 with Siegfried Farnon (played by Samuel West) and Richard Carmody (James Anthony-Rose) paying Miss Grantley (Juliet Aubrey) a visit. While Siegfried was there to tend to her poorly goats, he was more interested in getting to know her on a personal level.

Carmody noticed Siegfried's attraction towards Miss Grantley and encouraged him to pursue a stronger connection. This may not go down well with fans who were rooting for him to form a romance with Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley).

Off-screen, actor Samuel is in a relationship with playwright Laura Wade and they first started living together in 2007. In 2011 they temporarily separated.

In an interview with The Guardian that year, he explained: "I would very much like my own family, but I would prefer not to say if I've got close to it. When you run a theatre, as I have done in the past, it becomes your baby.

"I've lived with the playwright Laura Wade, and the combination of writer and actor was a good mix. But I love being an uncle to [his brother] Joe's children; I take that responsibility very seriously."

Two years later, he was cast as a minor character in The Riot Club, the film version of Wade's successful play, Posh.

In 2014 the couple had their first child together, a daughter, and they went on to have a second daughter in 2017.

Samuel Tweeted a photo of himself and his baby girl alongside a joke: "Number Two yesterday. Oh, and our second daughter was born."

He continued with: "As I said last time, the most extraordinary, ordinary thing. I'm dumbfounded. Again."

His dating history goes back to 2004 when he was in a relationship with journalist Kate Reardon.

For nearly a year he had been in a relationship with the former fashion editor of Tatler.

Viewers will have to wait and see whether Siegfried's relationship with Miss Grantley blossoms as All Creatures Great and Small continues.

All Creatures Great and Small airs on Channel 5 on Thursdays at 9pm
