What were once some of the grandest buildings across Europe that hosted royals and high society have now been left to the elements.

The extraordinary images captured by IT worker Thomas Windish take us past the ‘no entry’ signs of abandoned buildings and into the heart of these long lost hotels.

The images span from a ballroom scattered with rubble and glass to bedrooms engulfed in moss and dust.

The amateur photographer from Austria, who visited more than 100 abandoned hotels across Europe on a 12,000-mile odyssey, said: ‘It’s pretty awesome to see areas of a hotel that are normally not accessible for guests and to understand how a big hotel works in the background.

‘And of course, the decay and the reclaiming of these buildings by nature add a bit of a surreal and mystic touch which makes them unique and even more interesting.’
