Inside the Force: Serious assault and 999 call from shaken woman to be aired in tonight's final episode

The final episode in the series of Inside the Force will air tonight and will focus on Cleveland Police dealing with Saturday night problems.

The Channel 5 series has been taking viewers behind the scenes of the force over the last several weeks, showing officers from the Middlesbrough HQ responding to a range of incidents across the town. So far, they have included stabbings, street brawls, a drive-by shooting, and "threats to kill" against officers themselves.

Based inside Middlesbrough Police station, the biggest and busiest in Cleveland, this series goes behind the station doors from where everything is run. It’s home to over 500 police officers who look after a town with the highest crime rates in the country.

From the custody suites and the over stretched response officers to the detectives and dispatchers in Force Control, Inside The Force 24/7 takes an unflinching look at the realities of modern-day policing.

In episode 12 tonight - the final in the series - officers in Middlesbrough Police Station deal with alcohol related incidents in the town centre.

On a Saturday night, officers in the station gear up for a busy shift. New recruit PC Tayla Singleton heads out to patrol the town centre, which is home to more than a 130 bars and nightclubs.

The first call is to back-up an officer struggling to restrain an intoxicated man who has been pava-sprayed. A group of officers get him into a van and he is taken back to custody where he is held until sober.

Another call comes in about a serious assault outside a club, a man is unconscious on the floor and bleeding heavily from his head. Police are first on scene and have to give the unconscious man first aid to stem the bleeding whilst they face an anxious wait for an ambulance. It’s one of nearly 1.2 million violent incidents thought to be alcohol related in England and Wales each year.

Meanwhile, in Force Control, viewers will hear a 999 call from a shaken female who has just been robbed by some males in town but she is struggling to give her exact location. Officers comb the area and chase down two of the suspects.

Out on foot patrol in the town centre, PC John Skerritt spots a potential assault and approaches an arguing couple. The female explains that she has just hit her ex.

"We were together for 4 years but he was talking to other girls," she says. At the same time, John is radioed to another domestic going on round the corner. Struggling to keep across both, further units are called to assist. Custody is bulging and the night isn’t over yet.

Over in Force Control despatchers are concerned for a man they can see on their CCTV screens. He is laid out in the middle of the road, not moving in heavy rain. They urgently radio through to officers to check on the unconscious man who "doesn’t look as if he’s breathing."
