It's a bar that many people in Newcastle have still, rather criminally, not been to and now Sgt Peppers is looking a bit different, while still keeping the legendary party atmosphere it's famous for.

Given that its in an area of town that people probably wouldn't associate with a night out, with it being down a cut just off Northumberland Street, there are some Geordies who couldn't even tell you where it is, let alone actually been in, but, as those who go all the time will tell you, it's a place that you have to experience at least once.

And now, as soon as you walk through the doors at Sgt Peppers, which declares itself as 'Newcastle's number 1 disco bar,' you'll be greeted with a bit of a different look, with a wooden floor, the walls having a brick work look and the back one, which used to be home to a huge Union Jack, now wood panelled and featuring a neon light carrying the bar's name; with the transformation coming after Sgt Peppers toilets had a drastic makeover a few years ago.

The news that the 'sticky' carpet had bit the dust, got a big reaction on Facebook when it was first revealed in 2022, before the rest of the 'new look' was complete; with one customer reacting: "Big difference, don't think there'll be any sticking to the floor now, always a great music bar , full of life" but another commented: "i miss them sticky carpets"

While some bars in town always expect things to be a bit quieter on a Sunday, that most definitely is not the case with Sgt Peppers, with it it blasting the tunes out every weekend for its Sunday discos, which regulars keep flocking to. If you love nothing more than rounding off your week by belting Red Light Spells Danger at full pelt, you need to get yourself down and you can pretty much guarantee you'll hear plenty of soul and Motown classics as well.

If you go in on a Friday, you'll probably see a few people still in their work clothes who went for a 'quiet one' after clocking off, but are still there hours later or people who suggested a 'quick drink' after shopping but are sat at a table surrounded by empty glasses, as well as their shopping bags.
