Louche purveyor of smut or demigod to ‘lads’ all over the world?

Hugh Hefner has died at the age of 91, leaving behind four children, a multi million dollar estate – and a 30-year-old wife.

Crystal Hefner was just 28 when she married the Playboy tycoon and despite his advanced age and increasing frailty, still spent every night in his bed.

Such was Hef’s voracious appetite for young, buxom beauties, at one time it is believed he had sex with up to 16 girls at a time in his infamous ‘grotto’.

In return, the girls got a $1000-a-week allowance, free room and board at the infamous Playboy Mansion and the prestige of being a Playmate – and some, such as Holly Madison and Kendra Wilkinson – went on to find fame and high profile husbands outside of the mansion.

Behind the gilded gates of the 29-room ‘sex palace’, there’s many myths about what exactly goes on. Since news of Hefner’s death broke, many celebrities have come out heaping praise on the original ‘lad’s mag’ founder, calling him a ‘sexual pioneer’ and the ‘original feminist’. However, according to girls who have actually lived and slept with Hef, there’s a very dark side beneath the boobs, blonde hair and bunny ears.

Punishment by seating plan
According to British glamour twins Carla and Melissa Howe, who lived at the Playboy Mansion in 2015, Hef decided who would sit where for dinner every night. And if he was displeased with you, you were effectively put at the ‘naughty table’ .
Melissa told the Daily Mirror: ‘There are three dining tables. In one room is Hef’s top table where everyone wants to sit, then the family table which is second best.
‘But in another room beside the kitchen is the table for the more lowly guests, the nobodies and the girls who’ve annoyed him. Hef decides the seating plan every day and no one wants to end up on that third table.’

Strict curfews
Bunnies have to be in at 9pm with absolutely no male visitors allowed. Disobey, and you’re out. Hef also banned any drunk snaps on social media and when they’re on nights out with him, they have to sit at his table only. Carla Howe said in 2015: ‘When you’re here you have to be in by the 9pm curfew. You’re not allowed to invite any friends up to see you.’

The parties
This bit is not for the faint hearted.
According to a former girlfriend Jill Ann Spaulding, the girls all had to take turns having sex with Hef while the others cheered on. In her autobiography, she says: ‘When it first gets started his main girlfriend gives him [oral sex], then she has sex with him.”

Plastic surgery on the house
According to numerous reports, if the girls wanted something done, Hef footed the bill. Holly Madison said previously in her tell all book she had her boobs and nose ‘fixed’ within weeks of moving in and Hefner had told he preferred ‘busty girls with bright blonde hair’. He liked the girl to be so artificially blonde, they had to see a hairdresser once a week.

The dog poo
Various former Bunnies have mentioned the state of Hef’s carpets. Manky, old and smelly. The girls would apparently have to pluck dog poo off the floor before they collected their weekly allowance and often complained they stood in it at his infamous parties. And when Girlfriend No. 1 Holly moved into his rooms with her un-housetrained dogs, it got even worse, it is claimed. There are also trays of Vaseline, Kleenex and lubricant in each room. Which is a nice touch.

Sex cataloguing
One of Hefner’s old flames from the 70s, actress Carrie Leigh, actually tried to sue him after they split for $5m in palimony because he refused to marry her. She also gave some creepy insights into life at the Mansion. She claimed that sex addict Hefner kept a list of every person he slept with, what sex act they did and then graded them. From A+++ to C-.

Mandatory movie nights
As Hefner got older and er, little Hef did too, his sexual appetite waned somewhat, said Melissa Howe. Instead the girls are expected to watch movies with him on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Either oldies from the Fifties or new releases that aren’t in the cinema yet. And while that doesn’t sound too bad – its absolutely mandatory and every single weekend.
