Inside rare 1950s nuclear bunker set to go under the hammer for £15k
A 1950s nuclear bunker which has recently been fully restored is set to be auctioned this month. The Royal Observer Corp (ROC) nuclear bunker in Pontefract, Yorkshire is one of the rare 1,500 built in the 1950s and was even featured on Channel 4's George Clarke's Amazing Spaces.
Restored to its original state by the current owner, it stands as an important piece of British history. With an estimated value between £15,000 and £20,000, it will go under the hammer in a live-streamed sale on Thursday, November 21, hosted by SDL Property Auctions.
Andrew Parker, an auctioneer and partner at SDL Property Auctions, said: "There are only a handful of ROC nuclear bunkers left in the country so to have this lot for sale in our auction is quite unusual. This is only the fourth time we have had a bunker for sale, and the previous three that we have sold generated a lot of interest, and we're confident this lot will do the same."

Andrew added: "Some of the interested parties are simply curious to see what the inside of a nuclear bunker looks like, however, many are genuinely considering purchasing to secure their own piece of history," reports Yorkshire Live.
Also known as a Royal Observer Post, the bunker is secure and dry, with direct access to the road from its fence, with a gate and its own land. It was designed to provide accommodation for three observers to allow them to survive a nuclear attack.
The observers were provided with food and water and it had a land line and radio communications so they could stay in contact. Any prospective bidders can view the SDL Property Auctions website to book a viewing, download the legal pack and register a bid.
This can be done online, via proxy or over the phone. The auction will be livestreamed at 10am on November 21, with a successful bidder exchanging contracts as soon as it is sold.
The sale will complete 30 days later.
