'Inspirational' real-life Emmerdale couple reduced to tears by co-stars

A real-life Emmerdale couple have been reduced to tears after receiving support from stars from the soap.

Laura Norton and Mark Jordon are known to millions of Emmerdale fans for playing Daz Spencer and Kerry Wyatt on the ITV soap. Mark and Laura’s children, son three-year-old Jesse and one-year-old daughter Ronnie have both been diagnosed with Usher syndrome.

The rare incurable genetic condition affects vision and hearing and, in some cases, balance. Laura and Mark have regularly been campaigning to raise awareness of the condition and support research.

In the series finale of ITVBe’s Drama Queens, which follows the lives of some of our best-loved soap stars, Amy Walsh, who plays Tracy Metcalfe on the soap, raised a toast to the couple.

“We wanted to congratulate you two, for the amazing work you’ve done. You’re an inspiration to everyone around this table. But the most important people who you’re an inspiration to is your two babies,” Amy said.

“We’re so proud of the work you’ve done, we’re with you every step of the way and we’ll do everything we can to help you.”

Colleague Roxy Shahidi, who plays Leyla Harding in Emmerdale, added: “There are things that wouldn’t have happened if you two hadn’t been brave enough to stand up, own it publicly, dealing with your own emotions and still put yourself out there to try and help others.”
