Instagram's down and, yes, people can't cope

Instagram went down this evening, and the internet was (of course) collectively horrified.

The social media site wasn't refreshing for some users for over an hour, and while Instagram hasn't issued an official statement on the glitch, the issue came shortly after it was announced that it's now possible to follow hashtags on the social media site.

Instagram revealed the news earlier today (December 12), tweeting, "New today! You can now follow hashtags on Instagram", alongside a screenshot of the new option to follow hashtags as well as other users.

Down Detector reports 41% of complaints were of Instagram users having problems even logging in to the site, while 40% had trouble refreshing their feeds during the issues.

It's thought the problem has been affecting users in the US and UK as well as other parts of Europe, although it seems the worst of it is now over.
