Artisan cakes, a boutique feeling and a host of delicious hot and cold drinks are on offer at a new café in Derby city centre. Glamberry Café, started by young entrepreneur Anum Zafar, 28, hailing from Derby, has risen to Instagram fame with thousands following her journey since starting in her parents' kitchen five years ago.

The new café will hope to impress customers with a selection of cakes, desserts and a wide variety of drinks. The new venture is situated on The Strand and will be having its grand opening on Saturday, September 28.

The first 25 customers will receive a free goodie bag and will be welcomed into their newly refurbished boutique café. The opening will take place at 1pm with a ribbon-cutting and a promise of “lots of balloons”.

Owner and founder Anum Zafar said: “Initially I just started as a hobby baker. I used to post what I cooked on Instagram and it just grew from that. It then grew and grew until it was too big to run out of a home kitchen. So we moved to a unit where we started doing bespoke pre-bookings and then a lot of customers started to ask if they could come and collect cakes. We then started to do workshops teaching people how to decorate cakes with people coming from all over the UK.

“We started offering coffee and other drinks with some cakes and people were saying I would love to come and sit somewhere so I took that on board and here we are."

Anum has managed to grow her business through her impressive Instagram presence with over 80,000 followers all closely watching her journey of opening her bakery and café.

The menu of the new café will include cake pops, milkshakes, iced matcha lattes, loaded croissants and even a Matilda-themed chocolate cake with a chocolate ganache in the middle that would be sure to impress Miss Trunchball.

It will hope to seat around 25-30 people. Anum added: “It’s been quite nerve-wracking. We had amazing support from Instagram as well as the Cathedral Quarter who have been really kind, nice and welcoming to me. It's quite stressful but the support from others has really helped. It’s just nice to grow and see the business grow to the next stage, I can’t wait to just open up and get started to be honest.”
