Intense card game in Indonesia wins international photography competition
A photograph of an intense card game in Bogor, Indonesia has won this year’s CEWE Photo Award, beating over half a million other entries.
Ariani Dikye’s photo, winner of both the ‘people’ category and the overall contest, shows ‘a place where people meet and hangout in a village’.
Its title Warung Kopi refers to the type of small eatery that is considered an essential part of Indonesian life.
Thomas Mehls, CEWE Board Member, said: “This year’s winner conveys an authentic glimpse into everyday life in Indonesia with her magnificent shot.
“At the same time, she succeeds in capturing the beauty of the moment. Her motif perfectly reflects the motto of the CEWE Photo Award: ‘Our world is beautiful.’”
The world’s largest photography competition also revealed its ten category winners, including shots of glowing volcanoes, perplexing architecture and the enchanting banks of the Nile.
For every photo entered in the contest, CEWE donates 10 cents to SOS Children’s Villages worldwide, meaning the charity will receive €50,961 this year.
