Intense Winds Uproot Tree in Melbourne Amid Severe Weather Warnings

Wild weather wreaked havoc across parts of Melbourne, Victoria, downing trees and leaving hundreds of thousands of residents without power on June 8, as a polar blast swept through Australia’s southeastern states.

Footage uploaded by Twitter user Rachel Maclean shows a large tree collapsed onto a road in the Melbourne suburb of Upwey.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds throughout large parts of the state, cautioning locals of gusts of up to 100 kmph or 62 mph.

According to Australia’s National Broadband Network an estimated 200,000 premises have been left without power as a result of the damaging winds. Credit: Rachel Maclean via Storyful
