Interactive map shows every 'outstanding' secondary school in London
An interactive map shows every 'outstanding' secondary school in London according to Ofsted. The city has the highest proportion of outstanding schools in England with 27 per cent currently holding the status.
Merton tops the list in England for the most outstanding schools in one council area. Some 67 per cent of schools in the South London are rated outstanding.
This is followed by Ealing, Islington, and Kensington and Chelsea where 59 per cent, 51 per cent and 50 per cent are 'outstanding' respectively. Ofsted is now scrapping the single-word ratings for schools following a review in the wake of Ruth Perry's suicide, which came after Ofsted downgraded her school in Reading, Berkshire, from outstanding to 'inadequate'.

While those ratings are now being replaced with a more detailed overview, existing Ofsted ratings will still stand until schools are next inspected. Many parents will be thinking ahead to school places for 2025 and with applications are due to close on October 31, current Ofsted ratings will play a role in where parents decide to send their children.
During its latest round of inspections, carried out between September 1, 2023, and July 31 this year, Ofsted inspected 655 secondary schools in England. Of those, 137 schools - about one in five, or 21 per cent - were told they had achieved the highest possible rating of 'outstanding'. But including schools inspected before the last school year, there were 495 outstanding schools in England, as of July 31.
That means 15% of English schools were rated outstanding before the changes were announced.
But there were big differences across the country. In London, one in four schools were rated Outstanding at their last inspection (27 per cent), the highest proportion of any English region. That was followed by the South East (17 per cent), East of England (16 per cent), and Yorkshire and the Humber (16 per cent).
The North West had the lowest proportion of Outstanding schools (eight per cent).
