Investigation launched after Southeastern train derails near Ramsgate station
An investigation has been launched after a train derailed at a station in Kent. Southeastern has issued a statement today (November 29) following the incident near Ramsgate station last night.
At 7.25pm, the rail operator announced on X (formerly Twitter) that trains were unable to run between Ramsgate and Minster as safety inspections were being conducted along the track. Though the checks were completed promptly and the line then re-opened, Southeastern reported shortly after 8pm that an additional issue had been discovered and the route was subsequently closed again.
It was soon confirmed that a train had derailed in Ramsgate, resulting in services through the station facing delays, alterations and cancellations. Replacement buses served journeys while trains faced "severe delays" for much of the evening.

A spokesperson for the Southeastern-Network Rail Alliance told KentLive: “An incident occurred last night in which an empty train, in the sidings at Ramsgate depot, derailed at low speed. There were no injuries, and the incident is under investigation.
"Services are running normally through the area this morning, at a reduced speed. There was some disruption to our services, and if any of our customers were delayed then they can claim Delay Repay.
"The latest travel updates are available on the Southeastern website, app or on our X and WhatsApp channels. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”
