Investigation underway after crews called to fire at Swadlincote lead factory
Witnesses reported seeing plumes of thick, black smoke billowing into the sky from a fire at a lead factory in Swadlincote. Crews were called to the a fire at Midland Lead on Kiln Way, Woodville, on Monday, January 20, at 3.44pm.
On arrival at the industrial building, fire crews found that the three-story building had a fire in its filtration system.
A Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Supported by an aerial ladder platform, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one main jet and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. Nobody was in the building at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

"Crews left the scene at 00:22 hours and handed over to onsite personnel. Crews have returned to the site this morning to carry out a reinspection and check for any hot spots."
In a statement released on Facebook, officials for Midland Lead said: "A fire broke out in the baghouse filter at Midland Lead, a crucial part of our air pollution control system designed to capture dust, particulate matter, and other potentially harmful substances from our manufacturing process.
"We are currently working alongside emergency services to contain and extinguish the fire on site. The Environment Agency has been promptly informed. We are pleased to report all staff and individuals on site are safe."
