An officer with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) Motor Vehicle Enforcement division swerved to avoid getting rammed by a car veering over a highway median, footage released July 12 shows.

The Iowa DOT credited a cable median barrier with preventing injuries to patrolman Darren Reid.

This dashcam footage posted to the Iowa DOT Facebook page shows a car crashing into the cable median barrier as Reid maneuvers out of the way.

According to the Iowa Government website, the Iowa Department of Transportation began installing the barriers in 2007 to reduce the number of accidents on highways. Credit: Iowa Department of Transportation via Storyful
