Apple is set to launch three new iPhones, the details of which appear to have been revealed to the public in a new report.

The new handsets are set to include a range of new features – as well as new names that have never been seen before on an iPhone, according to the latest leaks reported by Bloomberg.

The new phones are due to be released next month. Apple's launch event is most likely to fall on 10 September, according to a range of previous leaks.

Perhaps the most surprising changes to the new handsets will be the branding. The iPhone XS and XS Max will become known as "iPhone 11 Pro" – marking the first time that the "pro" moniker so popular on other Apple devices comes to the iPhone – and the current XR will simply be known as the iPhone 11.

Despite the changes on the inside and to the branding, however, the new handsets are rumoured to look largely identical to the existing line-up. The majority of the changes will be internal.

One obvious change to the external design of the device will be a revamped – and much bigger – camera system on the back. It will include a third sensor that will allow for improved performance, according to various reports.

By incorporating another lens, the phone will be able to take ultra-wide-angle photos and videos. It will use artificial intelligence that will allow the phone to use that wider angle and incorporate someone into a photo if they had been cut off, for instance, according to the Bloomberg report.

The extra lens has been long-rumoured to be coming to the new handsets. But its function has been largely mysterious, with speculation that it could be used simply for better photographs or entirely new kinds of images, such as 3D scanning.

That camera could make its way only into the "Pro" phones, Bloomberg reported. In the current line-up, the iPhone XR only has one lens in its camera, as opposed to the two in the iPhone XS, but the normal version of the iPhone 11 will get an extra one to take it to two.

Apart from the additional lenses, the new phones will be able to take even higher resolution photos and improve their performance in low light, according to the same report. They will also have better video capabilities and the option to add effects or edit videos as they are recorded.

As well as the camera features, the iPhone will include a reverse wireless charging system that allows the phone to charge other devices up as well as to be charged. That will let it power up the AirPods, for instance, though it might also be limited to the Pro version of the phones.

The Face ID facial recognition technology, the water resistance, screen and processor will all be improved in the new phones.

On the outside, the phones will look mostly the same: they will be no different when seen from the front, and will be the same size. But at least some of them will get a matte finish on the back, according to the report.
