Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson kept his side in the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore by running out Glenn Maxwell. The right-hander scored 40 off just 25 balls keeping his side in the game in the run-chase. The Virat Kohli-led side is chasing 148 to win their ninth game of the season. The side has made the playoffs but still fighting for a top-two finish.

In the 15th over of the RCB chase, Glenn Maxwell was called for a single that was not there, by Devdutt Padikkal. With Rashid Khan bowling, the southpaw nudged the ball in front of cover and Williamson was quick to take the ball and hit the wickets direct all in one motion. Maxwell was not in the picture as the replays confirmed that he was way short of being safe. The look on Padikkal’s face said it all after Maxwell was found shot by Williamson.

If RCB loses this game, Delhi Capitals would be guaranteed the number two spot in the points table while RCB would finish third.

At last, RCB lost the game by four runs as Bhuvneshwar Kumar defended 13 off the final over with AB De Villiers failing to take his side home. At last Maxwell’s run-out turned to be the turning point in the game as Sunrisers ended their IPL 2021 campaign with a win.

“It is a game of small margins, I think Sunrisers held their nerve and bowled their last few deliveries pretty well to not allow us to get away. Looks like he’s back to his best after a layoff. We want him to bowl well. This tournament throws up talent every year, good to see a guy bowling at 150 clicks. It is important to know the progress of individuals going forward. Whenever you see talent like this, you need to nurture them. A little hiccup in the journey but we will carry on with the same momentum” said Kohli on his side’s loss against SRH.
