Iraqi Forces Advance in Khazir, East of Mosul

Iraqi military forces continued their drive towards Mosul on October 19, clearing landmines and other explosives in the Khazir area east of the city, according to an RFE/RL reporter traveling with the troops.

Iraqi military, Shia militias and Kurdish peshmerga forces launched an offensive on the Islamic State-held city on October 17, with air support from US-led coalition forces. Mosul is IS’s last stronghold in Iraq. Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
