Iraqi Forces Claim Last Kurdish-Held Town in Kirkuk After Clashes

Fighting broke out between Iraqi forces and Kurdish Peshmerga on the morning of October 20 near the town of Altun Kupri, or Perde in Kurdish, north of Kirkuk.

After several hours, the Kurdish forces withdrew, allowing the Iraqis to advance into what they said was the last Kurdish-held location in Kirkuk. Kurdish sources also reported “full control” of the area by Iraqi troops.

Local sources who spoke to Storyful said there had been casualties on both sides. Credit: Facebook/Rudaw English via Storyful
