Isolated by Pandemic, 90-Year-Old Joins Family Musical Session by Video Call

Niamh Ní Bhaoill attempted to make her 90-year-old father’s time in protective self-separation slightly better by holding a traditional music session for him in her family’s home in Kerry, in the west of Ireland.

Tuning in via WhatsApp video call, Ní Bhaoill’s father can be heard joining in a rendition of the Irish folk song Óro Sé Do Bheatha Bhaile.

Writing on Twitter on March 16, Ní Bhaoill said it was hard being unable to visit her father, who lives several hours away. However, he took a WhatsApp video call for the first time, she said, and they all “had a little session, a glass of vino & Cashel blue.”
