Hamas Denies Firing Mortar In Gaza Truce

A mortar has been fired from Gaza into southern Israel - the first since the seven-week war ended, the Israeli military claims.

Hamas denied any knowledge of the attack, and said it was committed to the ceasefire.

Israel said the explosion did not injure anyone or cause damage.

Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire in August that brought an end to 50 days of bloodshed in the Gaza Strip.

The war - the third in just over five years - claimed the lives of 2,143 Palestinians, including 500 children.

On the Israeli side, 66 soldiers and six civilians were killed.
