Israel and Hezbollah Agree to Ceasefire, Biden Announces

Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire on November 26, following discussions with US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron.

In a press conference held at the White House, Biden announced the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah would end at 4 am local time, on November 27.

“It reminds us that peace is possible,” Biden said. “As long as that is the case, I will not for a single moment stop working to achieve it.”

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati thanked Biden and Macron for their contribution to reaching the agreement, which Mikati described as “a fundamental step towards establishing calm and stability in Lebanon and the return of the displaced to their homes and cities,” along with “regional stability.”

While Biden said the ceasefire would “end” the conflict, Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu said its length would depend “on what happens in Lebanon.”

“We will enforce the agreement and respond forcefully to any violation,” Netanyahu said. “If Hezbollah violates the agreement and tries to arm itself, we will attack. If it tries to rebuild terrorist infrastructure near the border, we will attack. If it launches a rocket, if it digs a tunnel, if it brings in a truck carrying rockets, we will attack.” Credit: POTUS via Storyful
