Israeli forces demolished the home of a man in custody accused of killing an Israeli soldier during a raid on the West Bank last Spring.

In an operation that involved two controlled explosions and dozens of soldiers and military vehicles, troops destroyed Islam Abu Hmaid's home in Ramallah.

It comes after a spate of violence marked one of the bloodiest weeks in the territories this year. Two Israeli soldiers, along with a pregnant woman and her child were killed.

The Israeli military said it killed two Palestinian gunmen and another attacker, while a teenage boy and 60-year-old man were two other Palestinians who were killed.

The violence has jeopardised Prime Minister Netanyahu's coalition after far-Right MPs threatened to withdraw their support unless heightened security measures are introduced.

Meanwhile Australia announced it will follow the US in moving its embassy to Jerusalem, though only in the event of a peace settlement between Israel and Palestine.
