Israeli Police Fire Tear Gas at Protesters Near Temple Mount

Palestinians flocked towards the al-Aqsa mosque on July 21 to perform Friday prayers and protest against increased security measures, including metal detectors, put in place after the killing of two Israeli police officers by Arab-Israeli gunmen.

On the same day, Israeli soldiers prevented Muslims under the age of 50 from entering the area around the al-Aqsa site, known to Jews as the Temple Mount.

A number of people were injured when Israeli soldiers fired rubber bullets, Palestinian reports said.
