STORY: SpaceX could have approval to launch its Starship 5 as soon as this month.A source told Reuters of the update Tuesday (October 8).The license would be given by regulators at the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, or FAA.The body has repeatedly said it didn't expect to decide on a license before late November.But SpaceX said on social media Monday (October 7) Starship's fifth flight test could launch as soon as October 13th - pending regulatory approval.The FAA said Tuesday it continues to review the proposed mission.It added it would make a decision "once SpaceX has met all licensing requirements", and made no mention of the November timeframe.SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has harshly criticized the FAA.He is angry at a proposed $633,000 fine against SpaceX over launch issues.Musk has also complained about the delay in approving the Starship 5 license, which the company says has been ready to launch since August.He has called for the resignation of FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker and threatened to sue the agency.Whitaker faced questions at a congressional hearing last month about the matter.He responded that SpaceX had failed to complete a timely sonic boom analysis for the Starship 5 launch.He further said SpaceX had not disclosed they were in violation of Texas and federal law on some matters, and that's a requirement to get a permit.SpaceX said it is targeting the launch for Sunday in an email invitation to VIP guests.
