'It just slipped out of my hand', says man who threw second milkshake over Tommy Robinson

A man who threw milkshake over Tommy Robinson as he campaigned for the European elections said it ‘slipped out of his hand’.

The former English Defence League founder, who is running to become an independent MEP for the North West, was hit with the drink during a walkabout in Warrington, Cheshire.

It is the second time Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has been attacked with a milkshake in two days.

Video footage shows him arguing with an Asian man who then hits the milkshake against his head.

The man, identified as Danyal, told the newspaper Robinson had tried to talk to him several times and he ‘‘got annoyed”.

The Mirror quoted him as telling Asian Image: "I just got annoyed with him. A milkshake ‘slipped’ out of my hand.

"I had no intention of doing anything or reacting in any way. But he kept talking.”

Danyal, 23, told the Mirror he had complained to police that Robinson had made several attempts to engage with him.

He said: “He saw I was the only Asian man there. He kept coming up to me and asking 'am I a racist? Do you think I'm a racist?’

“He was pressuring me, following me around with his camera. He was being aggressive, coming up to my face.”

In the footage, Robinson appears to respond by throwing punches at the man before they are separated.

Cheshire Police said: "We are aware of an allegation of assault made following an incident in Bridge Street in Warrington this afternoon (2 May). We are looking into the circumstances."

A spokeswoman said the force had given Robinson advice but denied claims on social media that he had been given a police escort.

The incident comes after a separate video showed Robinson attacked with a milkshake in Bury, Greater Manchester, on Wednesday.
