People have praised the efforts of a local restauranteur, showering him with support and booking spots in his new venue.

James Nolan, who runs the Deysbrook pub in West Derby, bought Justino's Restaurant & Bar in Aigburth back in April. He changed the name of the restaurant to Amici and after he invested more than £100,000, it has now reopened to the public.

The new Italian restaurant, which has a capacity of 120, has a new interior and a full new kitchen along with new kitchen equipment and a renovated bar area. Amici also has a new lunch, a la carte, Sunday roast and dessert menu. Dishes include salads and burrata, wood stone oven-fired pizzas and calzones, risotto, pasta, fish and meat dishes.

The arrival of Amici was welcomed on social media, with people showering 'hard-working local lad' James with praise. Liverpool ECHO reader Garstonred said: "This will be brilliant." Dino59 added: "Well deserved a great lad works so hard hope it does well for him."

Despite the venue only recently reopening, guests are already popping in. Laura Peter said: "We’ve booked a table next weekend - looking forward to it.", while Sue Allen added: "Can’t wait to go."

Louise Jacobs said: "I love what you're trying to achieve and I’m sure you will be successful in your new venture."

Previously speaking about taking on the premises, James said: "After nine years of hard work the time has finally come for me to start a new venture, one I have always wanted to do and tried to make happen for the last five years. My friends and family will only know how much I’ve always wanted to open an Italian restaurant.

"So I have finally made it happen and I can now shout about it. I have acquired the former Justino’s site in Aigburth. The Deysbrook, which has been my life for the past nine years, has allowed me to take on this challenge and I will still be fully involved in the day to day operation and running of The Deysbrook but just not around as much whilst I get stuck into this new venue."

On the reopening, James added: "After weeks of renovations and so much hard work behind the scenes, we’re delighted to unveil our new Italian restaurant, Amici, in the heart of South Liverpool on Aigburth Road. Here we’ve put together a menu that everyone will enjoy, from nibbles and light bites to an excellent lunch offering, to our a la carte menu which is the showpiece of our restaurant."
