ITV The Chase's Bradley Walsh was shocked by one contestant's response to a difficult question. Alys, a 20 year old law student, answered correctly, which seemed to confuse Bradley.

But the host quickly composed himself and congratulated Alys, as he said "that's why I ask the questions." The ITV game show saw four fresh game players ready to take on one of the UK's best quizmasters with the chance to win a cash prize. On Monday, Rich, Clare, Paddy and Alys were up against The Governess, Anne Hegarty.

First up was Rich who earned himself £5,000 in the cash builder round, but was unable to make it back home and lost out on a chance to play for a cash prize. Next, Clare successfully earned £6,000 against The Governess, and Paddy followed in her footsteps, bringing £4,000 back to the team following the cash builder.

Finally, it was Alys' turn to put her knowledge to the test. She successfully got six correct answers, earning £6,000 to face the Chaser. After a tight chase, it came down to her final make or break question to get her back home safely. However, host Bradley Walsh was confused by the difficulty of the question.

The baffling question was based on cricket: "Which of the following is a West Indian cricket ground?" The options were Kensington Oval, New Trafford and Tent Bridge."

A confused Bradley stared at the question, while Alys inputted her response. Alys put Kensington Oval as her answer, which was correct. However, Bradley continued to stare at the question long after the answer was revealed.

He said: "I don't know anything about cricket", adding: "Kensington Oval I thought that was in South London." The Chaser, Anne, informed Bradley that each of the possible answers were actually plays on English stadiums: Kensington Oval, Old Trafford and Trent Bridge.

Despite Bradley's obvious confusion he struggled to move past the fact Alys had answered correctly. He said: "Wow Alys, that was really really good." He added: "I would've been out", he joked: "That's why I ask the questions."

Viewers took to X to agree with Bradley as he congratulated Alys. One said: "Fantastic performance from Alys." Another said: "Well played Alys."

Despite Alys' impressive performance, the team failed to take any money home. In the final chase, Alys, Paddy and Clare were dominated by The Governess, who caught their weak score of 12 with 52 seconds to spare. The Chase is on ITV1 at 5pm.
