ITV Coronation Street Bernie Winter star's life off-screen with famous Emmerdale actress wife
Coronation Street's Bernie Winter, played by the talented Jane Hazlegrove, might have had a string of bad luck when it comes to romance on the cobbles, but away from the drama of Weatherfield, her love life couldn't be more different. Bernie has been through the wringer lately in the soap, dealing with the tragic loss of her son Paul Foreman (portrayed by Peter Ash) after his fight with MND (motor neurone disease). Viewers were moved as Paul was diagnosed last year and recently witnessed his poignant final moments on the show.
Yet, Jane Hazlegrove's off-screen world is filled with joy. The actress, who has brought Bernie to life since 2019, is happily married to her partner Isobel Middleton, an actress with credits in Emmerdale and the Harry Potter series. The pair exchanged vows back in 2015 and are known for keeping their personal life out of the spotlight.
In a rare moment of openness during a chat on Lorraine, as reported by the Daily Star, Hazlegrove gushed about her wife, saying: "She's sensational, a really beautiful woman. I am very obsessed." She also joked that their long-lasting relationship, which spans over 28 years, might be due to the fact they've never acted together, reports the Mirror.

While they haven't shared the screen, both Jane and Isobel have enjoyed their time on soap operas. Isobel Middleton has taken on three separate roles in Emmerdale over the years. Her most recent appearance was in 2020 as Jean Rawson, before that she played a barrister in Simon McManus' trial in 2018, and earlier, in 2014, she appeared as Dr Lane.
EastEnders enthusiasts may recall her role as Sadie Banks, and she's also known for bringing voices to life in the Harry Potter series. Elsewhere on the telly, Jane has appeared in acclaimed series like London's Burning, The Bill, Doctors, and Holby City prior to her arrival on the cobbles of Coronation Street.
Jane Hazlegrove and her partner Isobel Steele sealed their relationship with a civil ceremony back in 2010 although Jane initially had reservations about making things official. Speaking to Metro, she discussed the change in her stance when Isobel faced health issues.
Jane recounted: "The reason we did it was because Isobel hadn't been well. It became very clear that I wasn't really allowed to know anything about how she was because we weren't related, even though we'd lived together for 15 years."
She continued: "It made me quite cross that I had no say in what happened to her. It all worked out fine, thankfully, but the morning after the civil partnership, I remember us saying over breakfast, 'No-one can touch us now'."
Since exchanging vows, the pairs relationship has continued to flourish. They were even spotted donning matching shades whilst riding the Coronation Street float at Manchester Pride, celebrating their union in style.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
