Coronation Street's Bernie Winter, portrayed by Jane Hazlegrove, may be somewhat star-crossed in the love department on the show, but off-screen, Jane's personal life is far more joyous.

Jane, who took on the role of Bernie in 2019, has been dealing with some heavy storylines lately, including her on-screen son Paul Foreman's (Peter Ash) devastating death from MND a particularly moving plot that unfolded earlier this month.

Yet away from the drama of Weatherfield, Jane Hazlegrove's romantic life contrasts sharply with her on-screen persona. The actress is happily married to Isobel Middleton, who is no stranger to the soap world herself, having appeared in Emmerdale and also being known for a part in Harry Potter.

The loving pair exchanged vows back in 2015 and are notably private about their union. Nevertheless, during a chat with Lorraine on the Daily Star, Jane gushed about her partner in 2019, saying: "She's sensational, a really beautiful woman. I am very obsessed."

She even quipped that the secret to their long-lasting relationship, which spans over two decades, might just be because they've never worked together on screen, reports the Mirror. Although the two haven't crossed paths professionally, Isobel Middleton has a history with soaps as well, having taken on three separate parts in Emmerdale, including Jean Rawson in 2020, a barrister during Simon McManus' 2018 trial, and Dr Lane in 2014.

EastEnders enthusiasts may also recall her role as Sadie Banks, in addition to her voice work for several characters in the Harry Potter series. Jane has also appeared in popular shows such as London's Burning, The Bill, Doctors and Holby City before securing her role on Coronation Street.

Jane and Isobel officially became civil partners in 2010, although initially, Jane was hesitant about formalising their relationship. However, during a conversation with Metro, she disclosed how her partner's illness changed her viewpoint.

Jane recalled: "The reason we did it was because Isobel hadn't been well. It became very clear that I wasn't really allowed to know anything about how she was because we weren't related, even though we'd lived together for 15 years."

"It made me quite cross that I had no say in what happened to her. It all worked out fine, thankfully, but the morning after the civil partnership, I remember us saying over breakfast, 'No-one can touch us now'.

Since then, the couple have enjoyed numerous highs. Most recently, they were spotted wearing matching sunglasses while aboard the Coronation Street bus at Manchester Pride.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
