ITV Coronation Street confirms ‘death’ of unlikely resident as DS Swain reeling
Coronation Street appeared to confirm the death of an unlikely villain in tonight’s episode. The ITV soap has seen lawyer Joel Deering terrorising Lauren Bolton, attacking her with a chair leg and trying to kill her unborn baby. But on Monday (September 30), he went missing, with his car found by a railway bridge.
DS Lisa Swain was accompanied by Kit Green as they headed to the crime scene, where they found a note folded up on the dashboard. And when Swain headed to Roy’s Rolls to tell Dee-Dee the news, she was left reeling.
Swain explained to Joel’s ex-fiancée: “His car is still at the spot where he made his last call to you. We also found a note on the dashboard. It was a suicide note. I’m really sorry to tell you this, Dee-Dee, but we think he might have taken his own life.”
Dee-Dee pressed: “But you didn’t find a body?” as Lisa confirmed: “Not yet, no, but the note was pretty unequivocal.”

Roy chimed in: “Well I’m sorry it’s ended like this. Some might get a visceral satisfaction from an offender meeting their end by whatever means – I don’t. I wanted Joel to face up to what he’d done and to wake up to where it had led him every morning of his natural life. He’s escaped that.”
Dee-Dee wasn’t buying any of it, and later headed to the spot in the woods where Joel’s phone had last pinged with his location, and discovered a car covered up nearby a ramshackle shed – though DS Swain confirmed it was not registered in Joel’s name.
When she headed round to his flat with Kit, Lisa found a notebook that the suicide note paper had been torn from, confirming that Joel’s potential suicide wasn’t a sudden decision at all, but a premeditated one.
Kit said: “He wrote the suicide note and took it with him. Whatever happened next, it was planned in advance.”
But is Joel dead, or has he faked it? Coronation Street fans can find out when the soap continues on Wednesday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
