ITV Coronation Street fans brace for Billy affair twist as Paul Foreman dies

Coronation Street enthusiasts seem convinced that Billy Mayhew is headed towards an extramarital escapade to alleviate his tension as his spouse Paul Foreman's health progressively worsens. Diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in the prior year, Paul's condition has left him housebound and unable to manage the stairlift safely. Now reliant on a motorised wheelchair, he has lost the ability to communicate verbally and requires a feeding tube for nourishment.

With confirmed spoilers revealing Paul's impending demise is slated to occur next week in emotionally charged sequences, viewers have picked up on a "strange" interaction between Billy and another beloved character. In the episode aired on Monday, September 2, Billy was seen engaging with Paul's twin sister Gemma and Sean Tully as he carried out errands.

During their exchange, Sean suggested that Billy take a breather and join him for some tea, but Billy stated he needed to return to Paul. Sean committed to a future catch-up telling him: "Reckon I'll hold you to that," reports the Express. This exchange has led fans to speculate about a potential secret liaison between Billy and Sean which could tragically cause Billy to miss Pauls last moments. Spoilers have also disclosed that Paul will convince Billy to go out for a drink a decision he will regret when he wakes to a hangover and realises his mobile phone is missing.

Frantic, Billy tries retracing his steps to recover the device, anxious not to lose cherished photos and videos of his life partner. Meanwhile, Summer and Bernie discover an unresponsive Paul, battling to breathe and rush him to the hospital.

With no means to reach Billy, will he be absent for his final farewell to his husband?

Corrie enthusiasts have pieced together a possible scandalous storyline involving Billy Mayhew while he indulges in a night on the town and it looks to spell trouble. A Twitter fan posted: "Only me who detected a frisson between Billy and Sean last night on #Corrie? Billy set for a soul-sucking affair just as Paul's on his deathbed??"

Echoing the sentiment, another viewer tweeted: "As soon as Sean said I'll hold ya to that cup of tea I had an inkling. Typical Corrie. The first tweeter then speculated further: "It makes sense as well if he's blackout drunk next week and feels guilty enough to run off to find his phone, then Paul dies?"

This speculation trails behind actor Daniel Brocklebank's heartfelt reveal at the British Soap Awards to Metro about his deep personal connection to the MND storyline, saying: "It's a very personal subject to me. My grandfather died of motor neurone disease so there is always an importance to handle a storyline with truth and integrity, but for me on this one, it feels even bigger."

Brocklebank expressed a strong commitment to the cause: "Because MND is such a cruel disease, anything that we can do to help people who are either living with MND or people who are related to people with MND, and hopefully maybe raise some money and make some steps towards finding a cure."
