A tearful Sean Wilson has shared the difficult conversation with his daughter about a historic sex claim - but says: "I’m innocent". ITV Coronation Street star Sean Wilson has spoken about the prospect of telling his daughter about an historic sex claim made against him.

Speaking to the Sun, he said: "It's very difficult to tell my daughter about something like this. How do you tell your children that you've been wrongly accused of this? But they'll have to be okay about it won't they? Because their dad's innocent."

Referring to the whole ordeal, he said: “It’s been hell. I’ve been low all the way through. My reputation was ruined in just eight minutes. My whole world was blown apart. I had no idea who had made this complaint or anything about it but I lost my job.”

After being called to Greater Manchester Police HQ in November, police told Sean they would take no further action over the allegations. Sean played Martin until 2005, leaving with yet another girlfriend, Robyn, much to the disappointment of his son David. He reprised his role occasionally, last appearing in 2018, but was set to return again for Gail's exit storyline.

No more details have been given about Sean's decision to leave the soap before his scenes air, but just a few weeks ago, Sean shared his excitement about making his return. He said: "It was great to be invited back to Coronation St again, to contribute to Helen’s exit story. We’ll have a few months to catch up with Martin and Gail again, following the ebbs and flows of the unfolding storyline.

"Playing Martin has been a joy since day one and in a way, I’ll be slipping back to where I left off, which no doubt will throw a spanner into the heart of the Platt family. It’s just like slipping on an old and comfortable jumper from the back of the wardrobe."
