Coronation Street have confirmed two new stars have joined the show. Joe Layton and Farrel Hegarty have arrived on the Cobbles as "nightmare neighbours" Mick and Lou Michaelis, who move into Mawdsley Street at the back of Chesney and Gemma Winter-Brown's house.

The move from the show represents a big change as it is the first time ever Corrie have extended the soap across the ginnel. Viewers may recognise the two stars as they have both enjoyed stints on a number of well known TV shows.

Joe has previously shared the screen with iconic Scouser, Jodie Comer, in BBC show, Thirteen. Speaking about his career, the actor said: "The first acting job I got was New Worlds with Jamie Dornan, who is such a lovely guy.

"I've done quite a bit of TV and theatre. I lived in the US for six years and did Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, which is a Marvel TV show over there. I have worked on a bunch of Netflix and BBC shows and I also worked on an ITV show called The Trouble with Maggie Cole with Dawn French. I also worked with Jodie Comer on Thirteen, who’s really great."

Joe is set to star in a show called Lockerbie, which is set to arrive on screens later this year. He added: "It may well be out while Corrie’s on too which would definitely confuse the public because I have an American accent in Lockerbie."

Farel may be known to fans from her role in Emmerdale and Brassic. She has previously appeared in Corrie as a different character and said returning feels particularly special.

She said: "I’ve actually been in Coronation Street before in 2019, I played a reporter on the Boxing Day episode so it feels like a full circle moment which makes it even more exciting. But this is definitely my first big role."

The neighbours are set to cause trouble for Chesney and Gemma on the show when they arrive on screens on February 12. Farrel can't wait for fans to see her characters as she said it was a dream come true to land the role.

On the moment she found out she got the part, Farrel said: "I was working in a studio as a studio manager on the side of acting, so I’m glad I was at work because I had like 20 people who were around me at the time of waiting for the news.

"Everyone just kept asking me to let them know when I found out. I remember walking in and there were about six girls who gathered around me and it was such a lovely moment because there was so much support, I was crying - I've never physically shaken that much in my life, it was just a feeling of pure shock and joy.
