Coronation Street viewers were taken aback as they worked out who Joel Deering could target next.

The character, played by Calum Lill, has emerged as the Cobbles' latest villain as he was confirmed as Lauren Bolton's attacker. The defence solicitor currently holds all the cards as he is representing the person falsely accused of being Lauren's killer.

Joel continued to lead his normal life in the latest episode as he introduced his girlfriend, Dee Dee, to his parents. The conversation proved to be a frosty one as Joel's mum made a series of rude remarks.

However, Joel smoothed over the awkward interaction by taking the grand steps of proposing to Dee Dee, who has no idea who he really is. Fans were distraught as Dee Dee accepted the proposal.

Viewers are convinced Joel's spree is not over after killing Lauren. Viewers are convinced the killer may be behind Gail Platt's exit after the legendary character announced she was quitting earlier today.

@Bsupport73 commented, alongside a tearful emoji: "It’s only occurred to me when watching #Corrie tonight that Joel will probs have something to do with Gail’s exit."

Luke said: "The fact we’re 6 months away from Joel killing Gail Platt" Arlene added: "I suppose this Joel storyline is going to run until Christmas where he'll kill off Gail"

Another fan claimed that he may be targeting his mum soon after viewers were introduced to their difficult relationship in Wednesday's show. Corey said: "Joel is so going to kill his mother... just have that feeling."
