Tina O'Brien sent a tearful tribute after Helen Worth's Coronation Street departure.

The soap star was emotional after her onscreen mum confirmed her legendary stint on the cast of the Cobbles will be coming to an end. Helen has played Gail Platt since 1974 and is one of the ITV soap's most iconic characters.

However, it was confirmed today her stint will come to an end this year as Helen said: "This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.

“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew.

“The past 50 years have flown by and I don't think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.” Tina, who is renowned for her role as Sarah Platt, was emotional after the news was confirmed.

She said, alongside a tearful emoji: "Can’t put into words how much I love and adore Helen."

Tina led tributes from the Corrie cast as Colson Smith added: "A Corrie Icon." Daniel Brocklebank posted: "She will be so missed. We adore her."

Sally Carman posted: "Wonderful Helen, she will be sorely missed. A really special person." Samia Longchambon added: "We will miss Helen so much! X"
