ITV Corrie confirms 'death' of unlikely resident as DS Swain gives grim update
Coronation Street's latest episode sent shockwaves through viewers as it suggested the demise of a surprise villain. The ITV drama has been rife with tension as lawyer Joel Deering engaged in a vicious attack on Lauren Bolton, using a chair leg and targeting her unborn child.
But the plot thickens as Monday (September 30) saw Joel vanish, his vehicle abandoned by a railway bridge.
In the gripping scenes, DS Lisa Swain and Kit Green were seen investigating the car by the railway bridge, where they stumbled upon a troubling cluea note left inside on the dashboard. The plot took another twist when Swain broke the devastating news to Dee-Dee at Roy's Rolls, leaving her in utter disbelief.
Swain revealed the grim findings to Joel's former partner: "His car is still at the spot where he made his last call to you. We also found a note on the dashboard. It was a suicide note. I'm really sorry to tell you this, Dee-Dee, but we think he might have taken his own life."
A distressed Dee-Dee questioned: "But you didn't find a body?" and was met with Swain's confirmation of the absence: "Not yet, no, but the note was pretty unequivocal," reports the Liverpool Echo.
Roy entered the conversation, adding his perspective: "Well I'm sorry it's ended like this. Some might get a visceral satisfaction from an offender meeting their end by whatever means I don't. I wanted Joel to face up to what he'd done and to wake up to where it had led him every morning of his natural life. He's escaped that."
Despite the seemingly conclusive evidence, Dee-Dee's skepticism prompted her to investigate further. Her search led her to the woods where Joel's phone last transmitted a signal.
There, she uncovered a concealed car close to a dilapidated shed – though DS Swain confirmed it wasn't registered under Joel's name, adding more mystery to the already complex case.
Lisa made a chilling discovery when she visited his flat with Kit; they stumbled upon a notebook that was missing the exact paper used for Joel's suicide note, revealing the act wasn't impulsive but rather something he had contemplated.
Kit said: "He wrote the suicide note and took it with him. Whatever happened next, it was planned in advance."
Viewers are on tenterhooks to discover whether Joel has actually met his demise or if it's all an elaborate ruse.
